Creating an interior to meet the demands of corporate and leisure travellers is a balancing act between style, function and maintenance.  This was the case for the newest addition to the Quest chain of properties in Bondi Junction where it was important to create a stylish interior for guests that was both functional and easy to maintain.

The 4.5 star property featuring 82 stylish studio apartments, was establishing to cater to the increasing demand for serviced apartment facilities in Bondi Junction, a popular business and leisure area in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The modern and spacious rooms were designed to suit the needs of guests who may stay for days, weeks of even months at a time.

Housekeeping is a daily occurrence in this busy serviced apartment so designing for low levels of maintenance was important.  The functional benefits offered by carpet tile was a key factor in the interior designer’s decision to recommend Interface carpet tiles for the rooms, corridors and common areas of the Quest Bondi Junction.

Important to any hospitality environment
is the ease in which a badly damaged or soiled area of carpet can be replaced by housekeeping or in-house maintenance staff. Products that reduce the need to take rooms off the market or remove furniture to conduct repair work can translate into significant revenue savings.

Interface products were the perfect choice for this environment, offering superior colourfastness and a patented stain resistant coating, Protekt®, which provides a barrier against permanent staining that broadloom carpet cannot achieve. The protection extends to bleach, solvents and harsh cleaning agents, which commonly cause damage to carpet in hotel rooms and corridors. Spills also stay on the surface of Interface carpet tiles making spot cleaning easy and effective.

Aesthetics and underfoot comfort were also important in this high-end serviced apartment building, so Interface’s patented CushionBac® system was used to provide superior underfoot comfort and noise absorption, without compromising on quality or design.

Feedback has been positive from both guests and staff where the carpet has made an impressive impact on the look and feel
of the building interior as well as the overall design. Su Presley, the Interior Designer for this project said she was, “Most impressed by the carpet in the rooms. It has that broadloom look and feel.”

Importantly Quest has been able to continue its commitment to sustainability by working with a 100% carbon neutral product that has a warranty to be returned to a recycling program to become new carpet tiles in the future.

In making these design choices, Quest Bondi Junction is leading the way in sustainable product purchasing for the accommodation industry.
